Málaga with Kids: Family Activities Guide

Everything you need for a family holiday in Málaga: best beaches for kids, parks, children's museums, day trips (Bioparc, Tivoli, Selwo), family restaurants, and practical tips.

Málaga with Kids: The Perfect Family City

Málaga is one of the best cities in Europe for a family trip. Mild climate year-round, accessible beaches, interactive museums, theme parks within 30 minutes, and a dining culture that works surprisingly well with children. At AltaHomes we welcome families every week and know exactly what works with kids of all ages on the Costa del Sol.

Best Beaches for Children

What is the best family beach in Málaga?

Playa de Huelin: Our number-one recommendation for families. Wide, soft sand, playground next to the beach, chiringuitos with children's menus, and a local family atmosphere. The promenade is pushchair-friendly. See our complete beaches guide.

Playa de La Malagueta: More central but more crowded in summer. Lifeguards June to September.

Benalmádena beaches: The most family-oriented on the Costa del Sol. Wide, calm waters, broad promenade. Aqualand water park 5 minutes away. See our Benalmádena guide.

Museums and Culture for Kids

Which Málaga museums are good for children?

Museo Interactivo de la Música (MIMMA) (Calle Beatas, 15): Children can play real instruments from around the world. Interactive sections for experimenting with sound. Entry: 5 EUR adults, 3 EUR children. Ideal for ages 4-12.

Centre Pompidou Málaga (Muelle Uno): The multicoloured glass cube fascinates children from outside. Weekend children's workshops. Entry: 9/4 EUR.

Museo Picasso: Family workshops on Sundays. Free entry on Sundays for the last two hours.

Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle: The climb to the castle is an adventure. Towers, walls, spectacular views. Bring water and comfortable shoes.

Theme Parks and Day Trips

What day trips can families do from Málaga?

Bioparc Fuengirola (30 min by Cercanías C1): New-generation zoo with no visible barriers. Animals in natural habitat recreations. Spectacular Madagascar section. Entry: 23.50 EUR adults, 18 EUR children. One of Spain's best zoos.

Tivoli World (Benalmádena, 25 min): Classic amusement park with 30+ rides. Free entry — pay per ride or buy an unlimited wristband (20-25 EUR). Ideal for ages 3-12. Open May to October.

Selwo Aventura (Estepona, 50 min): Wildlife park with 4x4 safari. Giraffes, lions, rhinos in semi-freedom. A unique Costa del Sol experience. From 24 EUR.

Aqualand Torremolinos (20 min): Water park open June-September. From 28 EUR adults, 20 EUR children.

Parks and Green Spaces

Parque de Málaga: The tropical park in the centre. Century-old trees, fountains, playground.

La Concepción Botanical Garden: Easy paths among tropical plants and waterfalls. Children enjoy the plant maze.

Parque del Oeste (Huelin): Málaga's largest urban park. Duck lake, huge playground, picnic area, sports courts.

Family Restaurants

El Tintero (El Palo): Children love the passing-plates system. The beach is right next to it. Noisy atmosphere where kids blend in.

Los Mellizos (Huelin): Family chiringuito with a terrace on the sand. Children's menu. Kids play on the beach while you eat.

Brunchit (Centre): Perfect for family brunch. Children's options, fresh juices.

Practical Family Tips

AltaHomes tip: Our Huelin apartments are the most popular with families: beach 3 minutes away, Parque del Oeste 5 minutes, supermarket in the building. Those in La Malagueta have museums and beach equally close.
